SEW-EURODRIVE at SPS Italy 2023: Discover Collaborative Automation

At SPS Italia 2023, SEW-EURODRIVE’s presence in Hall 3 Stand F034 is developed within five thematic areas: community; interoperable and flexible systems; open digital services for a regenerative Smart Factory; efficient and connected machines; and reduce-reuse-recycle.

In addition, this year SEW-EURODRIVE again chose to translate the vision “Driving the world in a SEWstainable way” into various concrete initiatives, including the partnership with LifeGate through the “Zero Impact” project.

The company will also delve into its technologies and solutions at the May 24 seminar on the topic, “Integrated Software-as-a-Service and Smart Energy Management Solutions for More Sustainable Production Facilities.”

Sustainable, human-centric and resilient are the three key words at the heart of the Collaborative Industry of Industry 5.0 paradigm, a business model characterized by human-machine cooperation and a concept of technological progress aimed at creating a socially and environmentally sustainable production environment to offer solutions and services that can preserve energy resources and take care of our planet. A model that, starting from the potential of digitization, can enable 360-degree interaction and revive a broader sense of community, understood not only as cooperation between companies but also as openness and dialogue between platforms and technologies.

SEW-EURODRIVE stands side by side with all industrial realities that want to walk this transition path aimed at preserving the environment, improving people’s quality of life in factory production contexts and reducing production costs without compromising productivity. At SPS 2023, the trade fair for the smart industry recognized as a reference point for the Italian manufacturing sector scheduled to take place in Parma from May 23 to 25, the company will be present in Hall 3 Stand F034 with an important Call-To-Action at the base of its vision: Driving the world. Together. In a SEWstainable way!

The encounter between cooperation and circularity and between digitization and sustainability is at the center of SEW-EURODRIVE’s exhibition path in this edition of SPS, under the banner of Collaborative Automation, increasingly declined as a greater openness of communication and integration between the different machine automation and logistics solutions, present in the production plant, which never before must be able to coexist and interoperate easily in an ecosystem of diversified and multivendor solutions. A meeting that develops within five thematic areas: community; interoperable and flexible systems; open digital services for a regenerative Smart Factory; efficient and connected machines; and reduce-reuse-recycle.

Community

Industry and society are part of the same ecosystem and influence each other. Through a new sense of community, it is possible to generate more sustainable progress and equitable prosperity, based on reduced consumption and new forms of circular and regenerative value.

Interoperable and flexible systems

The openness of automation platforms to both horizontal and vertical levels of the factory ensures interoperability between machines and systems and greater simplicity in plant management; an openness that also enables the essential and necessary collaboration between all companies within the ecosystem (manufacturers, suppliers and technology integrators). A collaboration that SEW-EURODRIVE strongly pushes through the offer of solutions for Machine Automation (static production machines) and Logistic Automation intended for mobile product handling (MAS, Cobots), capable of satisfying every need of the modern Smart Factory. In this context, the booth will host:

• the Eurofork Corner, with a shuttle used for pallet handling within automated warehouses built by Eurofork S.p.a. and equipped by the efficient, modular and flexible automation platform MOVI-C®;

• the MOVIDYN Portal, showcasing application flexibility, energy efficiency and connectivity in pick and place operations through the application of decentralized servo motors CMP, CM3C and the new release of MOVIDYN Performance.

Open digital services for a regenerative smart factory

Digitization of technologies and services enables plant connectivity and virtualization for real-time monitoring and greater efficiency in factory management with cost optimization. The solutions proposed by SEW-EURODRIVE at SPS are:

APPredict, a web-based application for smartphones, tablets, and PCs, designed specifically for existing or retrofit systems for the purpose of monitoring the health of the gearmotor, through wireless sensors, (thanks to vibrational and temperature data) and receiving real-time and remote support;

IoT Technologies / DriveRadar®, an as-a-Service software platform for new native automation applications with MOVI-C®, which enables the integration and monitoring of the health of components installed on machines, lines and entire plants across company boundaries in a digital network. The connection, in real time, with the plant enables, asset identification, condition monitoring and, through special analytics algorithms, predictive maintenance to maximize productive plant availability and avert sudden production downtime.

40Factory MAT IIoT Corner, a partnership formed to push the traditional boundaries of IIoT solutions to take advantage of all the benefits of a fully connected plant. In this case, a Geico Taikisha paint plant equipped with SEW-EURODRIVE and DriveRadar® components will be displayed on 40Factory S.r.l.’s MAT platform to monitor the overall operating status, operating parameters, and health conditions of the plant’s electromechanical components in real time. Incoming data from the field is read through SEW’s Smart Data Collector integrated into 40Factory’s MAT solution through the DriveRadar® platform’s communication interfaces to other market platforms.

Live Experience MAT-VR, thanks to the integration of 40Factory and Desys technologies comes the MAT XR by Linkersys extension that allows the creation of an environment where an industrial plant can be virtualized for an immersive and interactive experience. It will then be possible to interact in a virtual environment with the plant, view real-time operating status data, and perform maintenance procedures for a unique training experience.

Efficient and connected machines. Machine connectivity through IoT devices, understood as the ability to communicate, both horizontally (machine to machine) and vertically (to and from MES systems, SAP), is increasingly becoming an indispensable prerequisite for modern and efficient machines with reduced environmental impact and easy to use for the end user. In this context, SEW-EURODRIVE presents the Horizontal Form-Fill-Seal machine, a Sustainable Packaging Machine fully equipped with the MOVI-C® platform and characterized by intelligent management with regenerative energy recovery through the use ofPower and Energy Solutions, capable of guaranteeing machine stop in case of emergency, and the completion of the work cycle in total safety.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

SEW-EURODRIVE offers regenerative and environmentally friendly solutions for efficient Smart Factory management, such as the Up To Next gearmotor Remanufacturing program and Life cycle service

In addition to the above exhibition areas, the sense of Community underlying Collaborative Automation will also be retraced in the exhibition partnerships with Technology BSA, SEW-EURODRIVE Certified Dealer, and 40 Factory.

Technology BSA (Hall 6 Booth I025) will also include Maxolution Automation Bundles in its exhibit to make vehicles used for intralogistics handling; while at 40 Factory’s booth (Hall 7 Booth B022) it will be possible to see a working AGV made by ESN Group, with SEW-EURODRIVE automation components, within a dedicated demonstration area.

LifeGate’s ImpattoZero Project.

Also this year SEW-EURODRIVE has decided to translate its vision “Driving the world in a SEWstainable way” by implementing different initiatives, including the partnership with LifeGate. Thanks to LifeGate’s “Impatto Zero” project, it will be possible to calculate the CO2 emissions associated with all the activities and consumption of the SPS fair (e.g., energy consumption, water, waste production, transportation), in order to implement offsetting actions, with carbon credits, to be implemented within the Bosco Siro Negri nature reserve, a protected natural area located within the Valle del Ticino Regional Park (between the cities of Pavia and Garlasco).

Seminar at the fair

SEW-EURODRIVE will also delve into its technologies and solutions in the May 24 seminar, with a talk by Giorgio Lagona, Industry Consultant Airport & Parcel Log at SEW-Eurodrive Italia, entitled, “Integrated Software-as-a-Service and Smart Energy Management Solutions for More Sustainable Production Facilities.”

The ability to “do more with less” is key to reducing production costs, gaining new margins and preserving the ecosystem. Failure to adapt can mean losing competition in the international market. Through his talk, Giorgio Lagona will review available solutions, such as the Power and Energy Solutions (PE-S) line of modular solutions that expressly addresses the new electricity supply needs of companies.
