Interroll, the intralogistics leader

The Interroll Group is unquestionably an international leader in intralogistics. This is demonstrated not only by its comprehensive presence in all five continents, but also by its financial results, following a particularly strong first half-year in 2014.
With its headquarter in Sant’Antonino in Switzerland, Interroll has approximately 1800 employees in 31 companies across the world. The Group carries out its production and R&D activities in seven European centres of excellence: Wermelskirchen (Rollers), Hückelhoven/Baal (Drum Motors) and Sinsheim (Modules and Subsystems) in Germany, Hvidovre (Supermarket Solutions) in Denmark, La Roche-sur-Yon (Dynamic Storage) in France and Sant’Antonino (Engineering Plastics) in Switzerland. Other regional Centres of Excellence are located in the United States, in Colorado, North Carolina and Georgia, and in China. Interroll also has a dedicated Research Centre at Wassenberg in Germany.

A continuous growth
Interroll has initiated several projects to support its strategy of continuous and sustainable growth. First of all, the introduction of a new modular platform for conveyors. The new platform was unveiled at CeMAT in Hanover in May 2014 and received a very positive response. The new product offers customers significant advantages, including rapid design and installation of a system, supply time reduction by up to 50%, enhanced flexibility and an increased delivery rate, energy savings and a rapid return on investment (ROI). The platform will be launched in Europe first and it will make its appearance in the United States and China in 2015. Interroll expects the new platform to make a very positive impact on revenues in the medium term.
In the United States, the Group has been strengthened by the acquisition of Portec in 2013 and the opening of the new Centre of Excellence in Atlanta. And in Asia, Interroll has consolidated its manufacturing structure with the opening of the new Asian headquarters in Shanghai, and the acquisition of Pert Engineering in Shenzhen, China.
The Group is achieving excellent results in all four product areas: Drives (motors and drives for conveyors), Rollers (conveyor rollers), Conveyors & Sorters and Pallet & Carton Flow (dynamic storage systems). This trend has been boosted by the growing demand for Interroll’s 24V technology, and the continuing move to automation, driven mainly by the growth of e-commerce and calls for greater ergonomics in the workplace.

The synchronous drum motor
The development of synchronous drum motors merits separate consideration. After a long series of tests, Interroll has obtained certification of its synchronous drum motors from EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group). These motors are primarily intended for applications requiring a very high standard of hygiene.
For the food industry, therefore, but also for the pharmaceutical and the packaging industry, this type of drive, used for materials flow, meets the highest international hygiene standards as well as offers a particularly advantageous solution from the point of view of energy savings.
In Interroll Italia, it is stressed that this recognition is simply a confirmation of its excellent R&D activities, which allow the company to constantly improve its products. At the same time, the certification reassures customers, giving them a guarantee of consistent quality in their operations. The EHEDG Class 1 certification recognises achievement of the most stringent hygiene requirements that a technology company can satisfy in this area. It also offers the practical benefit of simplification of the cleaning process and an absolute reduction in the risk of food contamination. This a great benefit to Interroll customers having a particular concern for quality, and in turn for their customers, namely the consumers at the end of the supply chain, who must be able to rely on a product which is pure and safe.

Some data
Among the company’s 23,000 customers are plant manufacturers, systems integrators and equipment manufacturers. Interroll products and solutions are in daily use by globally known brands such as Amazon, Bosch, Coca-Cola, DHL, Procter & Gamble, Red Bull, Siemens, Walmart and Yamaha (motorcycles) to name but a few.
Interroll is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange in Zurich and in 2013 achieved turnover of CHF 316.3 million (+ 3% over the previous year) with an EBITDA of CHF 45.4 million (+ 10% over the previous year).
