After the former editions held in Tunisia, Canada, Portugal and China, the 11th edition of the World Processing Tomato Congress will run in Italy, in Sirmione, on Garda Lake, June 8 to 11, 2014
Over 500 professionals from the 5 continents will be attending the congress under the theme: “From the field to the consumer plate: working together to shape the future for processed tomato products”. Experts will discuss production and consumption forecasts in the different parts of the world, sustainability, tomato growing productivity and also outline strategies for the future promotion and consumption of the tomato products. The Congress is organized by AMITOM – Mediterranean International Association of the Processing Tomato and ISHS, the International Society for Horticultural  Science, the main international organization in the field, active in 50 countries.
The 11th edition of the Congress is organized in collaboration with the Italian Association of Food Industries (AIIPA) and Fedagri Confcooperative, with the patronage of the Interprofessional organization Distretto del Pomodoro da Industria – Nord Italia and the kind cooperation of ANICAV – The Italian Association of Vegetal Preserve Industries.
The Congress Organizing Secretariat has been assigned to Fiere di Parma, the only Italian trade show with internationally acknowledged know-how in the food sector with Cibus, and technologies for food processing & packaging with Cibus Tec – Food Pack (October 28-31- 2014), technical sponsor of the Congress.
Besides discussing technology, sustainability and packaging the Congress will also analyze the role of science for a more efficient use of ever scarcer resources. A series of round table case histories will examine in depth the strategic issues of the sector in all the phases of the line.
The promotion tour started from Sacramento California when Fiere di Parma took part in the Meeting of the Californian Food Processors to disclose the Congress program (see more on  www.worldtomatocongress.com).
The Congress participants can also register for the “Post Congress Tour” that will take them to the Parma region from June 11 to 13 2014. Organized in cooperation with Regione Emilia Romgna it will offer a complete program of technical visits to a tomato growing farm, a tomato processing factory and a research center that will outline the value of the processing tomato sector in this territory.
The processing Tomato industry is a strategic business for Italy: with 4.5 million tons per year of processed tomato products, the country   occupies the second place in the world ranking, after California.
